Kuhn Rikon have put fun and colour into cooking accessories.
Made from high-carbon steel, they are very sharp and safe.
Wüsthof - a great example of German precision. Favoured by many
professional chefs

Laguiole - hand made in the region of Laguiole and is much
favoured for its decorative and slim appearance.
Sabatier has long been the champion of the kitchen knife. The
purist chef will particularly favour their carbon steel.
I.O.Shen knives have been hand sharpened to 15°. An
incredible achievement!
Whetstone - the professional choice
The whetsone comes in different grit finishes. For a medium edge, choose the brown. This sharpening stone is first soaked in cold water. Then, on a flat surface and, with the aid of a metal guide the knife is drawn across the stone at an angle of between 10-15°.
Water wheel sharpener
This is a lot easier to use than the whetstone. Each wheel has a different grinding strength. You would use each one in turn for a few strokes
Robert Welch hand sharpener
Designed for the "Signature" range of kitchen knives it can also be used to great effect on other brands of knife. It is quick and easy to use, but not recommended for serrated edges.
Sharpening steel
An invaluable tool to realign the edges of your carving or kitchen knife and to hone to a fine edge again.
Wood Visually more pleasing and can be hygenically sound as long as care is taken when washing with detergent. Not recommended for raw poultry.
Polypropylene This set from Joseph Joseph is neatly contained and because of they are individually coloured, can be easily identified as to which food type they can best be used.
